Brown University
The Undergraduate Council of Students is a representative body of members committed to serving Brown’s undergraduate community. The UCS’s external work is divided between four committees: Academic and Administrative Affairs, Admissions and Student Services, Campus Life, and Student Activities. Representatives from all four classes and a diverse area of interests work individually and collectively to propel short and long-term goals. Through frequent correspondence with University decision makers, UCS strives to actively and authentically pursue student interests. This year, more than ever before, UCS aspires to develop and foster collaboration between student organizations in order to effectively communicate, represent, and build from the diversity of interests that shape this University. The Columbia College Student Council (CCSC) organizes events and promotes issues that are important to Columbia College students. The CCSC began on a date lost to the mists of time. It was then dissolved in 1962, and later re-instated in the 1980s. The CCSC consists of three parts: the executive board, the class councils, and the representatives-at-large. The Engineering Student Council will strive to represent the interests of the Engineering Students and that of the University as a whole, to improve student life, and to foster communication amongst students, faculty and administrators, and alumni throughout Columbia University. The purpose of the GSSC shall be to represent the undergraduate population of the School of General Studies by pursuing academic, political, social and administrative initiatives of interest to that student body in all their diversity. The Student Assembly is the undergraduate student government at Cornell University. The Student Assembly deals with quality of life issues for students, making sure that student issues are heard and addressed. The assembly has legislative authority over the policies of the Office of the Dean of Students and the Department of Campus Life, and establishes the undergraduate Student Activity Fee and guidelines for its distribution. The Student Assembly is the official student government of the College. Composed of elected student representatives and delegates, the Assembly is responsible for representing student opinions and concerns to other constituencies of the Dartmouth community, including trustees, administrators, faculty, and staff. The purpose of the Assembly is to coalesce and strengthen student participation in the College's decision-making process. Members of the SA serve on various College Committees, and the Assembly itself has its own committees that provide structure for discussion and action. The Harvard Undergraduate Council was created in the spring of 1982 to serve as an advocate for student concerns, organize campus-wide social events, and provide funding to student groups and organizations. With an annual budget of $450,000 from the Undergraduate Council Student Activity Fee, it is the first centralized and funded student government in the history of Harvard College. The Council offices are located in the Student Organization Center at Hilles. The Leadership Institute at Harvard College (LIHC) is a student organization devoted to fostering the awareness, skills, and values of leadership among Harvard undergraduates. By providing skill-building programs and channels for collaboration between student leaders, LIHC aims to inspire and empower students to fulfill their leadership potential at Harvard, in their communities and in their world. The Undergraduate Student Government is divided into two main areas: the USG Senate, which is the main body of the USG that represents the entire student body, and class government. The Undergraduate Assembly is the elected, representative branch of student government at Penn, charged with improving life for all students through funding, services, and advocacy. The core of our work is advocating for all undergraduates to administrators, student groups, and the wider world; the UA works with everyone at Penn to deliver tangible change for students. The Yale College Council (YCC) is the student government body for Yale undergraduates. The YCC represents the opinion of the student body and works with Yale administrators to insure the students' perspective is considered in their decisions. Additionally, the YCC organizes, finances, and participates in many student-wide events throughout the year. These activities range from discussions and lectures on serious topics to concerts, cooking contests, comedy shows, and other events which benefit the entire student body.
